Connecting Apple iCloud Mail (app-specific password)

Connect iCloud Mail (icloud.com, me.com and mac.com) to the Kauthar inbox: an app-specific password from your Apple Account, servers set for you.

Overview#

In the Connect a mailbox form choose iCloud / Apple Mail. iCloud Mail does not accept your Apple Account password in other apps — it needs an app-specific password that you create once in your Apple Account and paste into Kauthar. The servers are set for you: incoming imap.mail.me.com on port 993 with SSL, outgoing smtp.mail.me.com on port 587 with STARTTLS, and the username is your full iCloud address. Once connected the mailbox works like any other: the unified inbox, replies, drafts saved to your iCloud Drafts folder, and the daily mail digest.

Who can use it
Business owner / admin / anyone with the Mail permission (add a mailbox)
Where to find it
Side menu → Business email → Mail → Mailboxes → iCloud / Apple Mail

Step by step#

  1. Make sure two-factor authentication is on for your Apple Account (iPhone Settings → your name → Sign-In & Security); without it app-specific passwords are not available.
  2. Open appleid.apple.com (or account.apple.com) and sign in → Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords → press + and name it e.g. Kauthar → copy the password shown as xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
  3. In Kauthar open Mailboxes, press iCloud / Apple Mail, enter your full iCloud address (e.g. [email protected]) as the E-mail address and Username, and paste the password in the password field.
  4. Press Test connection until both incoming and outgoing succeed, then Connect and test; Kauthar starts fetching the last 90 days of mail.

Good to know#

Frequently asked questions#

Does Kauthar keep my Apple Account password?

No. You enter only the app-specific password; it is stored encrypted, never shown to anyone, and you can revoke it from your Apple Account at any time.

My address ends with me.com or mac.com — does it work?

Yes, every iCloud address uses the same servers; enter it as it is.
